Anniversary Celebration
The West Sacramento Historical Society is holding on
Sunday, September 19, 2010, a celebration of their 17th anniversary of the formation for the society and to raise funds for the History Gallery located in the new West Sacramento Community Center. The event will be held at the Galleria at West Sacramento's City Hall, 1110 West Capitol Avenue from 4 - 6 p.m.
Shipley Walters, local historian and author, is the guest speaker for the celebration and will discuss how she decided to write her books on Yolo County. Walters wrote her first book, Yolo County: Land of Changing Patterns, which was co-authored with Joann Larkey. She's written eight books including, West Sacramento: The Roots of a New City which is the first book documenting the city's past. The book was published by the Yolo County Historical Society in 1987. Jeri Hughes Wingfield, president of the historical society states, "The celebration is to bring everyone together to heighten awareness of the new History Gallery.
The society invites everyone to the gathering and also wants to welcome new residents and share information about the history of West Sacramento. It's an opportunity for them to learn about the community they live in." An RSVP is requested by Monday, September 13, 2010. The celebration is free with a donation bar; appetizers will be served. For further information call Martha Mills at 916-365-5379 or Jeri Hughes Wingfield at 916-371-7678.
